Kairin initially studied Hotel Reception and Bookkeeping in Aberdeen and Furniture Design at Edinburgh School of Art before heading off to work in Glasgow, London and The Netherlands. When she returned to Scotland she became active in the Transition Town Movement, the Yes campaign and then the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Kairin studied Life Sciences in Dundee and graduated in 2015 with a BSc (Hons) in Anatomical Sciences. She is now Executive Director of Modern Money Scotland, a North East representative for the SNP Policy Development Committee, the North East Coordinator for the SNP Common Weal group and Convener of Yes Edinburgh North and Leith.
